Movie Catch-up

Hello True Believers-

In High School, I had a teacher who would go up to students, and say either Ketch-up, or Mustard. You wanted to hear Mustard, because if you heard Ketchup.....you had to Catch-up in School Work.

A bit weird, but still memorable. I'm doing a little Ketchup with movies. With no Football, save for the Super Bowl to fill my days, I now have time to catch up on my movie watching.

HBO-HD currently is playing Breach. A nice little movie with the excellent Chris Cooper as a true life FBI agent, who sold our secrets to the Russians. The FBI heads can't arrest them unless they catch him red-handed, so they enlist a young FBI'er, looking to become agent to bring him down.

It's a strange little movie.......building tension as the life of the young aspiring FBI agent gets turned upside down by his mission. It is a good, if not remarkable film buoyed by very strong performances. Check it out.

I'm very excited today. A film I've been waiting with baited breath for is coming out on Video. The King of Kong. It's about....yes....competative Donkey Kong playing. As a child of the 80's....I'm looking forward to seeing how this subculture works....and if this much hailed documentary is worth the hype.

Have a great Tuesday (Idol is on 2nit as well!!!!)

Ice Ice Baby

Oh my goodness....I have never experienced ice like I did over the weekend. I had a quarter inch of ice on my car I had to chisel off last night. I found a mixture of blue washer fluid, and elbow grease gets it off.

My weekend.....was one of loss and boredom. Every year, this is one of the worst weekend, the first without football since September. It means a long wait until my passion returns. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but this is always a painful part of the year. I truly think its a mixture of bad weather, post holiday blues....and lack of pigskin.

Speaking of next week's Super Bowl XLII, I think it's going to be a much better game than the 12 point spread would suggest. The Giants are peaking....and the Patriots look tired. It would be madness to pick the Giants of NE....but I do think it will be a good game. Just look at the Patriots other Super Bowls.....none of them blowouts.

Back to last weekend......it was time to watch some TV....and find out what is not out there. The strike is going to weigh heavily for the next few months with NOTHING new to watch....save Letterman and Survivor. I found myself watching a grabbag of films, KISS KISS BANG BANG (pretty cool), Red Planet (Not a great film, but I enjoyed it), and American Psycho (As incoherent as I remembered it) I'm just going to have to Tivo more things this week, to help myself from going nuts.

Good luck with the weather........and Have a good Week!

Juno what I watched? Juno! And I loved it.

Greetings True Believers!

I finally got the chance to check out Juno last week, and it is as good as I have hoped. I saw the trailer about 2 months ago, and I told myself then, "I must see this....it looks GREAT!" And I was right. It's always fun for a picture to come out of left field, and be spectacular. It's my job to know what is coming up moviewise.....so I have a good idea what to expect for the entire year.....but when a surprise like this comes out....I am pleased as punch.

I love to be surprised. I stay away from reviews and clips of films I know I'm going to see. I'll see a trailer once....but if I see it again, I begin my annoying photographic memory stuff...and it ruins the film a bit for me. Have you ever has a film ruined by the trailer? I like trailers that show something exciting from the beginning.......or a bunch of fast clips where you have no idea what's happening. But when they give away more than half of the film.......I get angry.

I'll never forget the original Matrix. I went in, not knowing what the heck was going on. And the terrific story and effects where like Christmas morning....because not alot of hype went into it...and the surprises were there intact.

Back to Juno, what an exhilirating movie experience. The first hour was what I had expected....a nice dark comedy.....but wow, it veers into dangerous territory....and comes out a champ. Ellen Page is a revelation, a young girl who finds adults are as screwed up as she thinks she is...... She plays a character that is scared, strong, knows what she wants....but maybe doesn't know how to get it.

It's a film I'll remember for a long time....and it would have been high on my top ten list if I had been able to see it in 2007. I recommend you see it.

Have a good week,

J

Monsterquest on the History Channel...the Ultimate Tease

Greetings True Believers.

So I've been checking out the new series from the History Channel- Monster Quest. And I have never encountered a bigger Tease ever in TV. Now yes....they are on the search of Bigfoot, Sea Creatures, and my favorite, the Skunk Ape from the Swamp. Each show follows 4 or so leads on the Monster they are searching for. They include many "eye-witnesses", some "hard evidence", and video footage. They follow each lead.....and of course wait until the end of the show to reveal what is learned.....and in every episode.......NOTHING.

Yes, yes......it would make world news if they did discover any of these did exist....but c'mon. Give me something. But it's just a big wild goose....or wild bigfoot chase.

I'll still watch.....but it's good to know you are going to be teased.....than to not know.

-Charter HD

Side note, hope you have noticed the new HD channels on your cable box. Here in the Tri-Cities, they've recently added the Weather Channel HD, A&E HD, History HD, FSN HD, ESPN2 HD, Discovery HD, Music HD, and a couple others. I hope they continue, I want to get USA HD, and can they strike a deal with the local Fox affiliate to get their HD signal?

FOX Attitude......Borrowing from Maury Povich

Greetings True Believers.

I have just finished watching all the BCS Bowls. Too bad most were a disaster. I could go on and on about the BCS decision process....but I'll leave that to the sports boys.

I'll just talk about the pop culture stuff........I hope to never see the Taco Bell ad....with the pregnant woman wanting something crunchy, cheesy, melty, and chewy. My Goodness........I liked the spot....but it was on INCESSANTLY!!!!!!

The FOX promotional budget was heavily weighed towards American Idol (can't wait), Terminator (I'll check it out), and the Moment of Truth game show. The sleaziest show in history.....THAT I AM GOING TO LOVE!!!!!!

Leave it to FOX, to create a show, where people are forced to expose their darkest believes....for cash! The premise is they strap you to a lie detector, and ask you provocative questions....the more you answer truthfully...the more money you get. The questions range from "if you could get away with it....would you cheat on your wife?", or "would you donate your kidney to your father in-law?" Should be great stuff.......just I think Maury Povich will be a little miffed they stole his schtick.

David Lettermen Returns, with a Beard, and an Advantage

Greetings True Believers.

After a weeks vacation, I thought I'd chat about someone else who has returned from vacation. David Lettermen. As you can see above, he has added a beard.....and you may not be able to see, quite alot of added pounds as well. He also has added weight, being the only talk show that can attract top flight guests.

Reason being......he produces and owns his show. Leno, O'Brien, Kimmel do not. He was able to cut his own deal with his writers, and now big guests don't have to cross the picket line to his show. Leno and Kimmel are so desperate for guests....they're going to be featured on each others shows this week. Maybe this way, Leno will be funny at 11:30 again....something he hasn't done for a decade.....but I digress.

Here's to Dave. He knew what to do...and how to do it. He didn't want his staff out of work, and out of a salary. He did what he had to, to keep the ball rolling. And, he had the ownership to do it right.

Here's looking to a quick end to the strike...........until then...Lettermen will reigh supreme.
